How to care for your crew socks- tips and tricks

Crew socks are a type of sock designed to cover your feet and reach up to approximately mid-calf. They are commonly worn by men and women for various activities s sports, hiking, or daily wear. Crew socks come in different materials and colours, making them versatile and functional. However, like any other garments or accessories, crew socks require proper care to maintain their quality and longevity.  When washing your crew socks, it is essential to read the care label instructions carefully. The label usually indicates the recommended washing method for the material used in your socks. Some materials require special attention, so it’s best not to assume that all socks be washed the same way. If your crew socks are made of cotton or cotton-blend material, you wash them in cold or warm water using mild detergent. Avoid using bleach or fabric softener as they may damage the fibers of your socks. Fabric softeners leave a residue that may cause skin irritation on sensitive skin.

If your wholesale crew socks have stains or dirt build up, you pre-treat them before washing them by soaking them in a solution of warm water and mild detergent for about 30 minutes before washing. For woollen or synthetic blend crew socks, hand washing is recommended to prevent damage to the material’s fibers. Fill a basin with lukewarm water and add mild detergent; gently agitate the water to create suds. Place your crew socks into the basin and let them soak for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with clean water until no soap residue remains. Avoid wringing out your woollen or synthetic blend crew socks as they may stretch out of shape; instead, gently squeeze out excess water and lay them flat on a towel to dry. After washing your crew socks, it’s essential to dry them properly to prevent damage and maintain their shape. Avoid using a dryer as the heat shrink or damage the fibers of your socks. Instead, hang your crew socks on a clothesline or lay them flat on a towel to air dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight drying your crew socks under direct sunlight cause fading and discoloration.

Extending the Life of Your Crew Socks

  • Wearing the same pair of crew socks every day leads to wear and tear, causing them to lose their shape quickly. It’s best to rotate your crew socks by wearing different pairs each day.
  • After washing your crew socks, check for any loose threads that may cause snags or unravel. Trim these threads with scissors before wearing your sock again.
  • Walking barefoot while wearing your crew socks causes friction between your feet and shoes, leading to holes or thinning of the material. 

When not wearing your crew socks, it’s essential to store them properly to avoid losing them or damaging their shape. You fold your crew socks neatly and place them in a drawer or storage container. Avoid stuffing your crew socks into a drawer as this stretch out the elastic band, causing them to lose their shape. Also, avoid storing wet crew socks as they may develop mold and mildew. If you have woolen or synthetic blend crew socks, store them in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Woolen and synthetic materials are prone to moth infestation; hence it’s essential to store them in an airtight container with mothballs or cedar blocks to keep moths away.
